Well, Jane, wide shoulders and thick arms do not look good in strapless dresses. Strapless dresses will only accentuate your shoulders and do nothing to camouflage your arms.

A Vneck dress would visually break up your shoulders will deemphasizing your arms. (If your arms are very thick, sleeves are the way to go.) Now, don get discouraged thinking you won find a lovely dress that isn strapless. Yes, most dresses these days are strapless, but who wants to look like everyone else?

The best thing to do is to go to a store and start trying dresses on. Your sales consultant may be able to recommend dresses that will look good on you.

If you really want to make your shoulders appear smaller, I would consider a different neckline. I think this would probably be the most flattering for you, since you mentioned making your waist look smaller too. Best of luck!
